Getting Started
The Presbytery of Coastal Carolina’s coaching ministry offers several portals into the world of congregational transformation and long-term vibrancy. Which one might fit your situation or need?
PASTORS' GATHERINGS
From the beginning, the coaches have held a monthly gathering for pastors and CREs, to share experiences in congregational ministry and begin to learn tools for transformation and vibrancy. Pastors new to Coastal Carolina (installed, interim, stated supply, CRE) especially are urged to participate, but the invitation is open to all. Now that they are full-time, the Thompsons expect to have monthly pastors’ gatherings in all three Communities (West, Central, and East).
As a pastor, how might you benefit from spending a couple of hours a month with some of your colleagues?

AWAKENING SPIRITUAL IMAGINATION
Receive 6 months of hands-on coaching support for less than what many church consultants charge for one day.
- work with 2-3 other congregations over the course of 6 months
- learn how to listen more deeply to your congregation
- open your eyes to the more positive aspects of things God is doing through your congregation instead of focusing on the negative or imperfect
- learn new ways to uncover untapped resources of energy and imagination from your congregation, opening the way for new vital ministries
- at the end of 6 months, congregations have the option of transitioning seamlessly into a visioning process (like the Community of Practice process below)
TWO-YEAR "COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE" TRANSFORMATION PROCESS
Sessions with a strong commitment to strengthening the vitality of their congregations are encouraged to consider participating in a Community of Practice. Sessions from three or four congregations appoint “Balcony Teams” that meet together monthly for two years. During this time, each team will engage in spiritual practices to share with the congregation, make valuable discoveries about their own church, discern a fresh version of their congregation’s vision, and anticipate the challenges and opportunities of living into that vision. The result is a set of tools and insights that can serve the congregation for years to come.
How ready is your congregation to learn, grow, discover, and follow God into the future? |
